Let’s start off by understanding exactly what Upselling and Cross Selling is.
Upselling is a sales technique to encourage customers to purchase a more expensive item than they intended to buy. An example is, if your customer is buying a hand drill, the Upsell will be to offer an 850W drill instead of a 550W drill that the customer intended to buy.
Cross Selling is encouraging your customers to purchase related or complementary items in addition to their primary purchase. An example is, if your customer is buying a hand drill, the Cross Sell will be to offer a drill bit set and screwdriver bit set.
In both examples above, you are increasing the value of the sale but if you were successful with both the Upsell and the Cross Sell, you have substantially increased the value of the sale.
If done effectively, Upselling and Cross Selling are strategies to optimise the sale and substantially increase your franchise’s revenue from existing customers. Your customers will believe that they received a personalised customer experience and you helped ease their decision-making process.
Is your staff trained and implementing Upsell and Cross Sell strategies in your franchise or are you leaving money on the table?
